Learn the art of woven darning and visible mending with artist Luce Thread, and breathe new life into your favourite knitted garments. Discover practical techniques for repairing everyday wear and tear while exploring mending as a creative, mindful and sustainable practice.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn the fundamentals of woven darning and visible mending for knitted garments

  • Practise your stitches on knitted swatches before repairing your own items

  • Discover techniques for mending socks, jumpers, scarves and other woollen clothing

  • Explore mending as a creative and restorative process, extending the life of much-loved garments

  • Repair, or begin to repair, your own knitted items with guidance from Luce

  • Take home darning needles, yarn and the confidence to continue your mending journey at home

What to expect

  • A small, friendly group, limited to 8 participants

  • A hands-on workshop in our Studio

  • No previous experience required

  • Time to experiment and develop your skills at your own pace

  • A light lunch from local independent bakery Norfolk Street Bakery

  • During the lunch break, the opportunity to glimpse inside David Parr House

What to bring

  • Please bring along any damaged wool or knitted garments you'd like to work on.

  • All other materials will be supplied, including tools and yarn for practising during the workshop and continuing at home.

About Luce Thread

Luce Thread is a London-based artist passionate about repair as a form of connection and care. Her practice explores holistic approaches that nurture both community and personal wellbeing, using mending as a way to slow down, reflect and restore.

Workshop numbers are limited to 8 people to ensure the best experience for all participants.

If the workshop is sold out, please email info@davidparrhouse.org if you would like to be added to the waiting list. You will be notified if a space becomes available.

Cancellation Policy

A refund for the workshop will be issued only if the place can be filled by another attendee, minus a 10% admin fee.

We reserve the right to cancel the workshop in unusual circumstances. This is avoided wherever possible, but in the rare event it happens, a full refund will be given.

We are sorry, but we cannot be financially responsible for extreme weather conditions or any other circumstances outside our control.
