Join Dalia James for an introduction to contemporary hand weaving. This tapestry frame weaving workshop provides a fundamental grounding in tapestry weaving techniques. During the workshop, you will be encouraged to experiment with key themes of Dalia’s work: colour and geometry and explore the use of texture through alternative materials.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn the fundamentals of tapestry weaving techniques

  • Plan and design your tapestry, focusing on colour and geometry

  • Experiment with texture using alternative materials

  • Enjoy a light lunch of pastries and cake provided by local independent bakery Norfolk Street Bakery.

  • During the break, get the chance to look inside 186 Gywdir Street (optional)

  • Go home with your newly crafted tapestry, with ideas for display and the skills to continue weaving at home

The session will include everything you need: a tapestry frame loom, tools and hand-dyed yarns.

About Dalia James

Dalia James is a London-based artist and designer. She graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Woven Textiles (BA Hons) in 2012. As a handweaver, the connection between her and the cloth she creates is essential to her practice. Dalia’s work focuses on colour and geometry and explores the relationship between the two. Her artistic philosophy has been shaped by the writings of William Morris and Josef Albers and her work often references early 20th-century design and artistic movements.
