Discover the Art of Broom Making at David Parr House. Led by skilled instructor Jon Bailey, renowned for his mastery and years of experience in teaching greenwood turning, this course promises an authentic journey into woodworking heritage.
Step into the timeless broom-making tradition in this engaging and hands-on 4-hour workshop. Learn to craft beautiful, functional brooms that are as practical as they are decorative. Whether for sweeping floors, tending to a workshop, or adorning your home with a touch of handmade charm, these brooms bring a sense of mindfulness and connection to your everyday spaces.
You’ll create 2 to 3 versatile hand brooms during the workshop, depending on time. Choose from a selection of high-quality materials:
– Arenga: Made from the fibres of the Arenga palm, this material is known for its stiff, durable bristles, making it ideal for tougher cleaning tasks or surfaces that require a firmer touch.
– Broom Corn: A traditional material used in broom making, Broom Corn features flexible yet sturdy fibres, perfect for sweeping fine debris and creating classic, multi-purpose brooms.
– Tampico: Sourced from the Agave plant, Tampico fibres are softer and more pliable, making them excellent for gentle cleaning tasks and surfaces that need a lighter touch.
We’ll guide you through the techniques and traditions of broom-making, providing tools and materials for your creations. Additional supplies will be available for purchase if you wish to continue your craft at home.
This course is perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike. Rediscover the joy of creating something meaningful with your hands and leave with useful and beautiful brooms.
