Frederick Richard Leach (1837-1904) was a master decorator and painter. In 1862, he established F. R. Leach and Sons, a firm of artworkmen based in workshops on City Road in Cambridge. The firm was renowned across the country and worked with many notable architects, artists and craftsmen of the day, including George Frederick Bodley, William Morris and Charles Eamer Kempe.
Leach and Sons specialised in all aspects of church decoration, from wall painting to altar-hangings, stained glass to candlesticks. The firm worked all over the country from Scotland to the Isle of Wight. Their work can be found across Cambridge in Jesus College, St Botolph’s church, Queens’ College and All Saints’ church. The firm worked on prestigious commissions such as St James Palace in London and Swan House in Chelsea. Leach and Sons continued under Frederick Leach's sons until 1916.
