Description

Exploring the intersection of past and present, contemporary artworks find their temporary home within the historic walls of the David Parr House. Words to Live By; Words to Live With marks the second edition of House Guests, an intervention exhibition series that invites artists, designers and makers to engage in dialogue with the extraordinary interiors and rich history of
186 Gwydir Street, Cambridge.
Taking inspiration from David Parr’s profound commitment to incorporating meaningful texts and phrases into the intricate decorative schemes of his home, the exhibition is part of a year-long programme centred on the theme of ‘Letter, Word and Text’. Each participating artist has been invited to contemplate Parr’s motivations and explore the enduring power of words, while considering which texts they themselves would choose to live with and by in their own lives.
This intimate conversation between historical and contemporary creative expression celebrates the domestic space as a vessel for storytelling, intergenerational connection and artistic practice. The invited artists present diverse responses to the brief – spanning conceptual, practical and creative interpretations – each contributing to the ongoing narrative of this remarkable house.
Designed by Calverts, a London-based design and printing co-operative.
Printed in full colour, with a map of the exhibition and information about each artist.
A5, soft cover, full colour, stapled.
24 pps.
