Join us for an introduction to contemporary hand weaving with artist Dalia James. This tapestry frame weaving workshop will give each participant a fundamental grounding in tapestry weaving techniques. During the workshop, participants will learn techniques and how to plan a design. You will be encouraged to experiment with key themes of Dalia’s work; colour and geometry and explore the use of texture through alternative materials. Participants will also be shown how to finish their piece along with ideas for display. The session will include everything you need, a tapestry frame loom, tools and hand-dyed yarns.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn the fundamentals of tapestry weaving techniques
  • Plan and design your tapestry focusing on colour and geometry
  • Have an inspirational walk through David Parr House (optional)
  • Enjoy tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits
  • Go home with your newly crafted tapestry, with ideas for display and the skills to continue weaving at home

Dalia James is a London-based artist and designer. She graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Woven Textiles (BA Hons) in 2012. As a handweaver, the connection between her and the cloth she creates is essential to her practice. Dalia’s work focuses on colour and geometry and explores the relationship between the two. Her artistic philosophy has been shaped by the writings of William Morris and Josef Albers and her work often references early 20th Century design and artistic movements.

All materials, including aprons, will be provided.
