Description

Join artist and experienced rug maker Lu Mason for a hands-on workshop where you’ll explore traditional rag rug techniques, including the hookie and proddie/clippie methods.

In this workshop, you’ll:

  • Learn to create two small rag rug squares using the hookie technique
  • Discover the best fabrics to use for rag rug making
  • Explore simple yet effective design ideas
  • Master techniques for finishing off your rug
  • Gain insight into the rich history of rag rug making in both the UK and the USA

Lu Mason began her journey with rag rug making in 1981 after moving to York, learning from local artisans and examining collections at the Castle Museum. Although she transitioned to a career as an Occupational Therapist in 1993, she revived her passion for rag rugs during the recent lockdown. Lu’s work has been exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Royal Academy Summer Show, the Bedford Higgins Museum, and the Yorkshire Arboretum, among others. She now shares a studio space in York, collaborating with fellow artists.

Light refreshments are provided, but please bring a packed lunch.
