Activism often conjures up quick, reactive, transactional signing of petitions, clicktivism, loud and aggressive ways to demand justice. There is a need for these types of activism. There is also a need for slower, quieter and more intimate forms of protest. Sarah’s gentle craftivism (craft + activism) adopts a quieter approach to protest. It focuses on using the process for critical thinking, object as a gift for powerholders or to keep to encourage yourself to be a thoughtful citizen or as ‘street craft’ to intrigue the general public into dialogue about social change. Join Sarah as she shares some of the projects, stories and methods for your gentle protests in her lovingly produced The Craftivist Collective Handbook.

About Sarah P Corbett:
Sarah P Corbett is an award-winning activist, author and Ashoka Fellow. Born in Everton, the fourth most deprived ward in the UK. A professional campaigner most recently with Oxfam GB. Corbett founded the now global Craftivist Collective (2009) to help people deliver what she coined her ‘Gentle Protest’ methodology. Her pioneering work has helped change hearts, minds, policies and laws around the world. WWF used Corbett’s 10-point manifesto to create their own successful craftivism campaign that led to a change in law to protect migrating birds. Corbett’s new book The Craftivist Collective Handbook was published May 2024 endorsed by Helen Pankhurst CBE and Jay Blades MBE.
