Description

Join Robjn Cantus for an exclusive in-person talk on Edward Bawden’s Life in an English Village as part of our Salon Series of Talks at David Parr House.

First published as a King Penguin book in 1949, Bawden’s illustrations have captivated audiences for decades. However, until now, these illustrations have never been reprinted in full. Robjn Cantus’s project, culminating in the publication of Looking at Life in an English Village in 2023, reexamines Bawden’s work, providing fresh insights into his life as an artist and designer, as well as the vibrant community of Great Bardfield in 1949.

During the evening Robjn will give an in-depth talk about Bawden’s original 1949 book. You will discover what inspired Robjn to revisit this classic and learn about his research process that brought this project to life. A Q&A session will follow the talk.

Tickets:

  • Attend the talk – £10
  • Attend the talk and get a signed copy of the book  – £31.50 (This ticket price includes 15% discount on the book).

Enjoy a complimentary drink with your ticket, the opportunity to speak with Robjn and after-hours shopping.

Please note this event will take place in at 184 Gwydir Street and does not include a tour of the house.

The event is part of our annual programme celebrating Letter, Word and Text. All money raised from talks and events at David Parr House goes towards maintaining the house and collection. Thank you for supporting us.
