Saskia will talk about projects that have involved gilding and bronzing. Sometimes genuine gold is not used and paints may be used to create a patinated bronze finish. Huning Decorations have produced painted bronze finishes on garden fountains, at Kenwood House and at the Sir John Soane’s Museum and have bronzed and gilded the cast iron metalwork in the Abbey Mills pumping station in East London. While describing some of these projects Saskia will talk about the art of gilding and creating bronzed painted finishes.
Saskia Huning is an artist and specialist decorator working on restoring and recreating historic decorative schemes and murals (including David Parr House). Working with both traditional and modern materials, Saskia uses a variety of painting techniques in projects in museums, churches and private houses around the country. The project being worked on might require gilding, graining, marbling, trompe l’oeil or a variety of decorative painting techniques. The application of the paint in the appropriate way to sit with the handwriting of the original wall painting or painted finish being restored or recreated is particularly important in her work.
