Access
Wheelchairs
We regret that wheelchair-access and step-free access are not possible within David Parr House itself.
We offer access to our ‘Explore’ platform, where you can navigate the house yourself, browsing over 100 hotspots of extra information, photographs and video content. To experience the Explore platform, book here.
Children
Due to space constraints, the fragility of the walls, and open display of the collection, the interior of the house is unsuitable for young children. We suggest that the house is suitable for children of 12+ only.
The House and Garden
The David Parr House has small rooms and a steep set of stairs with a single handrail. Tours involve standing in the house for 45 minutes without leaning or touching the walls. A small foldaway chair is available for those who might find standing difficult.
The garden is on one level, mostly laid to grass. It has a concrete path with a flowerbed on one side.
Visitor Centre
The Visitor Centre at 184 Gwydir Street has a single step from the pavement to the front path and a further step to the front door.
Restricted Mobility
For those with restricted mobility we offer access to the ground floor of David Parr House. There is a step up to the front door of the house and inside there is a step down to the kitchen from where you can access the garden step-free.
Due to the fragility of the wall paintings it is not possible to support yourself by learning against or touching the walls. If you would like more advice or to talk to someone about your visit please email info@davidparrhouse.org.
Parking
For those with access needs, free blue badge parking is available in the Gwydir Street car park.
To find out more or to discuss your access needs, please email info@davidparrhouse.org.
Guide Dogs
Guide and assistance dogs are welcome in the house and Visitor Centre.
Toilets
There is a disabled WC in the Visitor Centre.
Carers
If you need a registered carer to assist you during your visit, their entry is free of charge.
Tours for groups with additional needs
We are keen to accommodate groups with additional needs wherever possible and have a variety of resources available to help our guides enhance your experience of the house. To find out more about a group visit and to discuss your requirements, please e-mail info@davidparrhouse.org.
